Chengdu Panda Base: reserve the correct campus and an early entry.

Three days is enough for a strong first visit to Chengdu when the route respects real travel time. The biggest mistake is building a checklist that crosses the city repeatedly and leaves no room for security lines, timed entry or weather.

The plan below groups sights by location and gives the most time-sensitive attraction a protected place. Treat restaurant stops, evening walks and flexible neighborhoods as buffers rather than additional fixed reservations.

Quick answer

Use one geographic area per day, secure the hardest reservation first, and avoid combining distant sights just because they appear close on a map. This plan covers Chengdu Panda Base, Wuhou Shrine, Jinli Street, People’s Park without turning every day into a race.

Day 1: Pandas and a relaxed central evening

Reserve an early Chengdu Panda Base entry, protect the morning for the large campus, then choose Wenshu Monastery or Chunxi Road for a low-pressure evening.

Day 2: Wuhou Shrine, Jinli and People’s Park

Use Wuhou Shrine as the historical anchor, continue through adjacent Jinli, then slow down with tea in People’s Park or walk Kuanzhai Alley.

Day 3: Ancient Shu or a focused day trip

Choose Jinsha Site Museum for a deep city history day, or commit the full day to Dujiangyan. Do not attempt Dujiangyan, Qingcheng and central Chengdu together.

How to keep the itinerary workable

  • Confirm every timed admission before fixing restaurant or evening plans.
  • Use the metro for predictable cross-city journeys and DiDi for awkward final connections.
  • Leave at least one flexible evening for weather, fatigue or a delayed attraction visit.
  • Save Chinese names and entrances, not only English attraction names.

Frequently asked questions

Is three days enough for Chengdu?

Yes for a first visit focused on the main sights. Add more time if you want a major day trip, museums at a slow pace or several distinct neighborhoods.

Should I book Chengdu attractions before arrival?

Book limited or real-name attractions first. Flexible public areas can remain as backups around the confirmed reservations.

Where should I stay for this Chengdu itinerary?

Choose a central neighborhood with direct metro access to at least two days of the plan rather than selecting a hotel only by price or skyline view.
