Guilin travel is regional rather than purely urban: the airport, cruise piers, central city, Yangshuo, Xingping and Longji all require different transport decisions.
A map pin is not enough for a rural pier or village. Save the Chinese destination and confirm the return before starting an early or remote outing.
Quick answer
Use buses and high-speed rail for longer regional transfers, DiDi or official taxis for final connections, and pre-arranged transport for early rural viewpoints. Guilin has no city metro.
Using public transport in Guilin
- Use airport and intercity buses for central Guilin and Yangshuo when schedules fit.
- Use high-speed rail for Xingping via Yangshuo station, remembering the station is outside Yangshuo town.
- Use DiDi or official taxis for city attractions and final hotel connections.
- Pre-arrange dawn transport for Xianggong Mountain and remote Longji hotels.
How to avoid a failed DiDi pickup
- Choose a named gate, hotel lobby or legal roadside pickup rather than dropping a pin in a complex.
- Send a screenshot of the vehicle plate and driver message when communication is unclear.
- Stand on the correct side of divided roads and do not cross traffic after the driver arrives.
- Keep a metro or official taxi backup when demand, weather or road controls delay the car.
