Lingyin combines an active Buddhist monastery with Feilai Peak’s rock carvings and a congested west-lake transport corridor.

For foreign visitors, the useful plan is not only what to see but which entrance, identity document, transport connection and exit make the visit work. Save “灵隐寺” in Chinese before leaving your hotel.

Quick answer

Arrive early, enter the Feilai Peak scenic area first and confirm the separate Lingyin Temple admission before joining the temple route.

Tickets, reservations and passport checks for Lingyin Temple

Check official dated-ticket and identity requirements for both Feilai Peak and Lingyin Temple. Bring the original passport used for booking.

Check the official channel for your exact date and choose passport as the identity type when real-name booking is required. Keep the confirmation, admission window and entrance instructions available offline.

A Feilai Peak scenic ticket does not always equal temple admission. Avoid resellers that hide one of the two components.

A practical route through Lingyin Temple

  • Arrive before tour groups and enter Feilai Peak.
  • See the rock carvings along the signed path.
  • Purchase or validate temple access separately.
  • Move quietly through the main halls.
  • Leave by bus or a preselected pickup area outside the bottleneck.

How to fit Lingyin Temple into a Hangzhou itinerary

Pair Lingyin with the tea museum or a short Longjing village visit, not a full West Lake circuit.

Weekday morning is best. Temple festivals and holidays can create long access controls.

Keep a workable backup

  • Visit Feilai Peak if temple access changes.
  • Use the tea museum during heavy rain.
  • Walk only the lower route if mobility is limited.

Frequently asked questions

Are Lingyin Temple and Feilai Peak the same ticket?

They are commonly treated as separate admissions: first the Feilai Peak scenic area, then the temple. Check current official rules.

Can foreign visitors enter Lingyin Temple with a passport?

Major Hangzhou attractions generally support valid foreign passports, but the sales channel and gate workflow vary. Bring the original passport used for any real-name booking.

How much time should I allow for Lingyin Temple?

Plan about 3–5 hours, plus transport, security and queues. Mountain, river and outlying attractions need extra buffer for weather and internal transfers.
