The eastern Purple Mountain area combines an active temple, historic memorial architecture and quieter forest, but lies well beyond the mausoleum’s main gate.

For foreign visitors, the useful plan is not only what to see but which entrance, identity document, transport connection and exit make the visit work. Save “灵谷寺景区” in Chinese before leaving your hotel.

Quick answer

Reach Linggu by the official scenic shuttle, visit the temple and roofless Beamless Hall, then decide whether the pagoda climb fits your time before the last convenient return.

Tickets, reservations and passport checks for Linggu Temple

Check current admission or combined-ticket coverage and the internal transport schedule. Some religious spaces and towers may close independently.

Check the official channel for your exact date and choose passport as the identity type when real-name booking is required. Keep the confirmation, admission window and entrance instructions available offline.

A Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum reservation does not automatically include paid Linggu-area venues or the scenic shuttle.

A practical route through Linggu Temple

  • Arrive at the Linggu scenic stop.
  • Visit Beamless Hall and its historical displays.
  • Continue to the active temple respectfully.
  • Climb Linggu Pagoda only if open and comfortable.
  • Return by shuttle or the planned walking trail.

How to fit Linggu Temple into a Nanjing itinerary

Combine with Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum for a full Purple Mountain day, or visit alone at a slower pace.

Morning and autumn are especially pleasant. Check the last shuttle before extending a forest walk.

Keep a workable backup

  • Skip the pagoda climb.
  • Use the temple and memorial halls as the core route.
  • Return by shuttle before weather or daylight deteriorates.

Can foreign visitors enter Linggu Temple with a passport?

Major Nanjing attractions generally support valid foreign passports, but the sales channel and gate workflow vary. Bring the original passport used for any real-name booking.

How much time should I allow for Linggu Temple?

Plan about 2–4 hours, plus transport, security and queues. Mountain, river and outlying attractions need extra buffer for weather and internal transfers.
