Dujiangyan is a functioning ancient irrigation system spread across river channels, levees, temples, bridges and hillside paths—not a single monument beside the station.

For foreign visitors, the useful plan is not only what to see but which entrance, identity document, transport connection and exit make the visit work. Save “都江堰景区” in Chinese before leaving your hotel.

Quick answer

Travel to Lidui Park or Dujiangyan, enter the scenic area early and follow the waterworks route in one direction. Combine with Mount Qingcheng only if you accept a long, tightly timed day.

Tickets, reservations and passport checks for Dujiangyan

Coordinate attraction admission with the correct rail station and return journey. Check whether the ticket product covers only the core scenic area or additional transport.

Check the official channel for your exact date and choose passport as the identity type when real-name booking is required. Keep the confirmation, admission window and entrance instructions available offline.

Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng are separate large attractions with separate tickets and transport. A combined day is not automatically efficient.

A practical route through Dujiangyan

  • Arrive via Lidui Park or the station matched to your route.
  • Enter the scenic area and begin with the irrigation-system overview.
  • Continue toward Fish Mouth and the main river engineering points.
  • Cross Anlan Suspension Bridge only when open and comfortable.
  • Exit toward the ancient-city side or planned return transport.

How to fit Dujiangyan into a Chengdu itinerary

Pair Dujiangyan with its old town for a balanced day. Add Mount Qingcheng only with an early start and reduced routes at both sites.

Water levels, heat and holiday crowds affect walking conditions. Leave buffer before the return train.

Keep a workable backup

  • Use a shorter core loop when bridges or upper paths close.
  • Skip Mount Qingcheng if Dujiangyan takes longer than planned.
  • Keep a later train option without assuming seats will remain.
  • Use the old town during temporary scenic-area controls.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine Dujiangyan and Mount Qingcheng in one day?

Yes with an early start and focused routes, but each deserves substantial time. Many visitors have a better experience choosing one as the main attraction.

Can foreign visitors enter Dujiangyan with a passport?

Major Chengdu attractions generally support valid foreign passports, but the sales channel and gate workflow vary. Bring the original passport used for any real-name booking.

How much time should I allow for Dujiangyan?

Plan about 5–7 hours, plus transport, security and queues. Mountain, river and outlying attractions need extra buffer for weather and internal transfers.
